Gandaulf Leaves His Wheelchair Behind
Gandaulf is our rescued German Shepherd. He is very statuesque and stricking in appearance. Mostly he is a very loving and loyal dog, who loves to patrol our 10 acres of property, play ball and run in the meadow with his other dog family members. In 2008 during the big snow we had , Gandaulf came up lame. he could not hold up his hind end. we figured he fell on the ice under the snow. we took him to our Vet to have him checked.
The Vet checked him out and diagnosed him to have Degenerative Myolapathy which is prevelant in German Shepherds. this disease is in the spine and eventually the dog detierates and dies. We were refered to a Nuerologist who also agreed and gave Gandaulf 7 months to live. I of course could not and would not accept this diagnosis. i immediatly started researching what could be done to help save my beloved Gandaulf. we purchased him a wheelchair so we could continue to exercise him and keep him strong. we tried to keep him calm and stress free. Then a dear friend of ours told us about Dr. Nels. Dr.Nels had been treating her show horses and her for years with great results. She suggested we meet him and try.
Now Gandaulf can be a bit nervous in new situations and with new people. the first time we met Dr.Nels, Gandi walked right up to him like he was an old friend. Gandaulf was very relaxed after his first session. By the third session Gandaulf was able to stand on his own and walk several steps. i was thrilled. After a few more sessions he improved greatly, to the point of being able to walk on his own. Gandaulf would always be so excited to see Dr. Nels. He just continued to improve. we continued treatment once a month for another year.
Gandaulf now is healthy, happy and back to patroling the property. His back is level and his hind end no longer drags. He has'nt used his cart in over a year. I guess Dr. Nels, Gandaulf and myself proved them wrong. Dr.Nels has also treated my Cairn Terrier for pain and incontinance and has treatd me. Both with great results and relief. Thank with all my heart for all you have done for me and my dog family. You are a wonderful person with a healing touch. i will continue to share with others the great work you do.
Happy thoughts,
Kate Seabeck and Gandaulf
